Education:

Academically Redlands High School is one of the top high schools in the Inland Empire. In 2007, Redlands High School was ranked 1208 in Newsweek’s Survey of the Top 1300 U.S. High Schools. In 2008, Redlands High School ranked 1228. Redlands High was the only public high school in the Redlands Unified School District to be placed on the list. It beat nearby public rivals including East Valley High School and Yucaipa High School.

Redlands High School continues to see its overall API scores rise as well as individual student sub-groups. With a culturally diverse population, top-notch award winning faculty, beautiful historic campus, numerous championship caliber athletic teams, and versatile classrooms, Redlands High School will continue to be the best choice for a high school public education.

A Word from the Principal:

Welcome to Redlands High School - the oldest high school in the State of California still on its original site. Redlands High School offers a comprehensive high school curriculum as well as specialized programs and numerous extracurricular activities, all of which are well respected within and outside our community. RHS staff members are committed to providing all students with a challenging learning environment in order to fully develop their potential and to increase the achievement of each student. To support these efforts, staff, students and parents consistently analyze student results and other data to improve our program, instruction and curriculum. As RHS is a large school of 3.400 students, we are also implementing smaller learning communities to more effectively meet students’ individual instructional needs and to prepare them for college and their careers. RHS also continues to develop a pyramid of interventions to help ensure that all students fulfill all requirements including graduation and college entrance requirements as well as the High School Exam. Because of all these on-going efforts, Redlands High School is able to maintain its academic excellence. Once again, Redlands High has met all Federal AYP requirements and was recognized as being in the top four percent of all American high schools as measured on Newsweek’s Challenge Index!

RHS is also proud of the extensive co- curricular program and of the students who participate in them. Last year in a league of eight schools, RHS won 50% of the athletic league championships. Our School:

RHS has received three California Distinguished School Awards (1990, 1992 and 1994) for high-test score performance on state tests and for the exceptional programs that it offers to students. In 2000, RHS implemented the Heart Academy, a unique health career-oriented program that consists of students in a small learning community who are able to gain hands-on experience in the community in the health-care field. In 2005, RHS was awarded a CPA grant that allows for the implementation of ReBus, Redlands Business Academy. 2007-08 will see its first year of implementation that includes both 10th & 11th graders. Also, beginning in 2007-08, all of our 9th & 10th graders will participate in our small learning communities. Further, our AVID program includes five sections of 9-11 graders. Redlands High School, which enrolls approximately 3400 students, received a six-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 2006. The staff includes 140 certificated employees, including eight counselors, six ROP teachers, two AFJROTC teachers, two school resource officers, and a classified staff of eighty-eight. The certificated staff includes five administrators, nine counselors and two school psychologists. The school operates on a traditional time pattern with each class meeting five times a week for fifty-five minutes each day with a daily nutrition break between periods two and three. Students may enroll in a total of six periods of classes. Student ethnicity includes 39.3% White (not Hispanic), 33.9% Hispanic or Latino, 12.2% Asian, 8% Black or African-American, 4.3% Filipino, .7% American Indian or Alaskan Native, .9% Pacific Islander, and .7% Not Specified.

Our District:

The district educational system includes a K-12 program, alternative education and adult education. The district serves a student population of approximately 21,000. School sites include three 9-12 high schools (two comprehensive and one continuation), four middle schools and fourteen elementary schools. The district has acquired funding and property for a third comprehensive high school and is in the beginning stages of construction for that site
