Redlands - Friend of Youth
25 years the Redlands Optimist Club has been presenting
the "Optimist Games"
for special needs kids to strengthen their athletic skills and social
skills. Held at the Redlands High School Dodge stadium, home of
the RHS Terriers football team the Optimist Club gives invaluable
opportunity teachings to these children and their families. There
are over 200 special needs children from several high schools, middles
schools, and elementary schools who participate in the events.
include 25 yard dash, ring toss, obstacle courses, frisbee throws,
bean bag toss, basketball toss, softball thrown and more. This is
a full day of activities where these children can have a lifetime
experience in one whole day.
who has a heart, volunteers including the Optimist
Club, Redlands High School Terrier Football
Team, and School Teachers from around the community.
the complete day of activities are over lunch is served, and every
child receives a T-Shirt and medal. Everyone is a winner in the
Optimist games, from every athlete and every volunteer the time
shared is breath taking. To be able to help a little can make a
difference and for every competitor it is a fantasy that becomes
thanks goes out to Martha and Ted Mendoza who have been the primary
organizers on the event and have been a part of the Optimist Games
since the beginning.
